ABOUT US

Well, you could say that tea runs through my veins. Born and raised in beautiful England, tea was a major part of life and daily routine. When I came to live in the USA in 1988, I really did miss my tea. I was living in Omaha, in the middle of the USA and there was not a tea room anywhere. My late mum would send me over English teas and I would always try to keep my 3 o’clock tea time each day.

In 2002 I stumbled across a small tea room within an little antiques store that was about to close. I knew nothing about running an antique shop full of different vendors, but I did know about tea rooms. I took the plunge and became a business owner. With much help from Chantelle, my daughter and my English friend of many years, Gwyneth, we pulled it together and “Her Majesty’s Tea Room” was born.

Tea

When I moved to Vancouver in 2005, I missed having my tea room. I love company and my days were quiet and somewhat lonely. Each time I went out I would eagerly look for a property that would be suitable for a tea room. Finally I found one in Orchards and both Chantelle and I opened and ran “A Taste of Britain” and we became known in the Vancouver area by many of my customers who still frequent us this day.

In June of 2015 we opened “Sweet Peas Tea Room” in the Old Padden House on 78th Street. It was beautiful there, but we quickly outgrew the place and realised that more space was needed. Hence, two years later we took the opportunity to move into our home town of Battle Ground and our beautiful new space.

Cakes

My aim as your hostess is to have you feel welcome from the moment you park your car and walk up to our door. My theme is English all the way and it shows in our décor and food offerings. Warm and welcoming was the feel I wanted in the tea house as I want you to walk through the door and smell the scones baking and to be able to sit and relax within our establishment and escape the world for a while.

I bake all of the tea treats from scratch and try to use as many fresh local products as I can. Each tea will have traditional English treats included as well as the standard tea pleasures that we all enjoy. My scone recipe has been passed down through the generations. I love to bake and try new recipes, so there will always be a changing tea menu offered.

More than anything I want you to visit us, have fun, relax and be pampered for a couple of hours. I want you to leave us with a smile on your face, a full tummy and the feeling that you have just been recharged in life.

I am so looking forward to meeting you all and getting to know each and every one of you. I hope that you love our little place as much as I do.
